The Sevenoaks School Wind Band is in theory open to any student interested in playing in a conventional wind band.
In practice, this tends to be made up largely of middle school wind instrumentalists who wish to pursue their love of pursue their enjoyment of music in a large ensemble. The Sevenoaks School Wind Band provides another opportunity for students to develop their ensemble playing. Crucially, it also allows instruments which are not in the standard orchestral layout, such as the saxophone, to experience large-scale classical ensemble playing.
Playing more popular and concert-band style pieces, this ensemble also helps to enlarge the students' repertoire, and provides a different environment to the orchestras. Recent highlights include Philip Sparke's "Song and Dance" and Sousa's "Washington Post".
