Playing in an orchestra gives a musician a vastly different experience to playing on their own, or in a small chamber group.
It enables them to hear how their playing is part of, and contributes to, a much bigger sound than they themselves can produce, as well as encouraging hugely important musical skills such as counting and watching a conductor. With this in mind, it is thus a crucial part of a musician's development, and this is the aim of the Foundation Orchestra.
Foundation Orchestra also introduces pupils to music which they may not have encountered before. It is an excellent partner to pupils' instrumental lessons, and allows a rounded approach to music education while preparing something impressive for concert performance.
