MUN trip to BISMUN (Bath International Model United Nations)

Three delegations from Sevenoaks School, representing Burundi, Palestine and Ukraine respectively, have just returned from the long-established and prestigious Bath MUN conference. They spent three days writing UN-style resolutions, lobbying and debating, and the team was very successful this year.

Delegates were placed in a range of Human Rights and General Assembly committees, and topics discussed included global mental health, Syria, child soldiers, poaching in Africa, forced labour, the South China Sea, and many others. The eclectic mix of countries that we were representing made for some interesting viewpoints and proposed solutions.

At the end of the conference, a large number of delegates were given Commended or Highly Commended awards, and all three of our countries were classed as Commended Delegations. Most impressively, Imogen Berger-North and Sanzhar Khaidarov were both awarded the Best Delegate prize within the Health and Africa committees respectively.

Outside the conference, students were able to see a little of the city of Bath, including the Roman remains and Bath Abbey, and enjoyed a brief look at Stonehenge on the journey down.

Congratulations to all involved.
