Lower Sixth circus skills workshop

Lower Sixth students have been participating in circus skills workshops at Sevenoaks recently, in preparation for their Lent term studio play The Penelopiad.

The workshops in The Space are led by Dr Tina Carter, an internationally renowned aerial performer, choreographer and academic. The students have been focusing on the specific aerial discipline of rope, which includes learning how to climb, suspend themselves in the air and hold foot locks.

The Penelopiad, by Margaret Atwood, which will be performed in the Sackville Theatre in February 2019, is a retelling of Homer’s epic Odyssey, but from Penelope’s point of view, opening a dialogue about female narratives.

The workshops have been an incredible source of inspiration, enabling students to develop the technical skills required to choreograph set pieces for the show.
