Seventeen boys and girls from Years 9-13 competed in the Kent Schools Swimming Championships in Gillingham on Saturday 9 January. The boys swam in the morning session and the girls in the afternoon session.

We got off to a great start with Chris Cheng winning the senior 100m butterfly. Robert Hobbs, Ryan Cherian and Damian Owerko put in good performances in the 100m front crawl heats. In the boys breaststroke Robert Allen was unlucky to finish just outside of the top six and Alex Gibb won his heat and came fourth overall in the intermediate section. Louis Hayes put in an outstanding performance to win the junior 100m backstroke overall and Ingmar Gunn and Henry Jones both can be proud of their backstroke efforts.

The girls also put in a very strong performance overall, with Ellie Vowell coming second in the junior 100m butterfly and Issy Proctor coming third in the senior 100m butterfly. Lily Snell was unlucky to just get pipped in a very close finish in the inter girls 100m front crawl, finishing second overall. Beth Marsch swam very well in the junior 100m breaststroke and Emily Das put in an outstanding effort to win the inter breaststroke overall. In the Junior backstroke, Celia Merson swam well against some very strong opposition. Rosie Hobbs and Sarah Williams both put in pleasing performances in the junior and inter 200m individual medley.
