Sevenoaks School rounded off the tennis season in fine style, securing four out of six Kent Inter-Schools titles on finals day, at Tunbridge Wells LTC. The girls were first to take to the courts in the morning, when the inter girls team of Charlotte Imbert, Phoebe Buckland, Michelle Li and Kate Lyttle posted a convincing 6-0 win over Kent College Canterbury.
The senior girls encounter, also against Kent College Canterbury, was much closer: the Sevenoaks second doubles pair Anna King and Orissa Welsh secured an easy doubles win, while the Sevenoaks top pair Cathrine Hogh and Ellie Knox lost their singles matches, making it 2-1 to Kent College at the turnaround. Anna and Orissa stepped up to the occasion once again and recorded two singles wins, Cathrine and Ellie narrowly lost the doubles leaving the score tied at 3-3, the countback went to number of sets won leaving Sevenoaks victorious 7 sets to 6.
The boys’ finals took place in the afternoon. It was drizzly and grey but this didn’t stop the inter boys team of Oscar Brown, Thomas Geeson, David Vaccari and Luke Rasmussen, who rounded off a faultless and impressive season with a 6-0 win over Sir Roger Manwood’s School.
The senior boys were not to be outdone by the youngsters and despite missing a number of key players put in an impressive performance against Norton Knatchbull School. Alex Lenhart playing at number 1 led by example and despite losing the first set he dug deep to win the second set and the tiebreaker. Unfortunately Charlie Olley lost his singles at number 2 but the second doubles combination of Arthur Zijdenbos and Diego del Ser, making their debut at this level, posted a convincing win making it 2-1 to Sevenoaks at the turnaround. Arthur and Diego recorded two more singles wins while Alex and Charlie made the final score 5-1 with a doubles win.
