Kent Academies Network meet-up 2019

Sevenoaks School hosted the annual autumn meet-up day for Kent Academies Network (KAN) students on 27 November. A total of 46 students in years 10 to 13 from five academy schools in Kent, attended the event which had a thematic focus on visual arts.  Students came away from the event with a fresh critical perspective, after taking part in two culturally enriching workshops on ‘ways of looking’, delivered by art historians from The Bigger Picture.

For those students in Years 11 and 13 there was a parallel workshop on revision strategies delivered by Learning Performance, which included some dynamic memory boosting hacks, which the students learned and practiced during the afternoon. With university applications either imminent or in process, Year 13 students were grateful for additional one to one advice on their personal statements from Sevenoaks School staff and from two KAN mentors from Balliol College, Oxford who came down for the day.

There was a real buzz about university applications this year with many of students aiming for high tariff courses and some really exciting offers already in. There was excitement and a little trepidation too; with two students preparing for interviews for Cambridge University to read Maths and English, there is a lot at stake for the current Year 13 cohort of KAN students.
