Following some highly successful Kent Academies Network (KAN) events that have been held virtually over the course of the past year, this was the first Spring ‘residential’ event to take place remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic. On Friday 26 March, students from all four current KAN cohorts (2017-2020) attended many different virtual events over the course of the weekend, including academic and revision sessions as well as some more unusual extracurricular activities.

Overall, an incredibly well organized, well run and inspiring weekend, that the students and mentors thoroughly enjoyed – KAN mentor

Each day concluded with a different motivational speaker, who came from widely varying professional environments, from the education and social impact sectors and the National Grid. The four speakers all approached the session from different angles. Both Jesse Elzinga and Dr Danielle Stewart told the students about their personal experiences, while Chris McNamara talked much more about his views on the world of work, and Sir Damon Buffini’s session was entirely a student-driven Q&A. Key themes among them included the importance of hard work, ‘putting yourself in the room’, and finding a way to sustain passion and ambition.

Thank you to everyone that took part in our successful virtual weekend. We are looking forward to the summer residential event in July.
