On Thursday 11 May we were delighted to welcome over fifty Year 12 students to the Kent Academy Network Higher Education event from local schools including: The John Wallis Academy, Marsh Academy, Skinners Kent Academy, Hugh Christie, The Malling School and Knole Academy.
The students benefited directly from some excellent presentations from Matt Cowlam from the National Citizenship Service, Freddie Warner from King’s College London and Shannon Hardy from the University of Surrey.
They covered the opportunities to do a summer project with the National Citizenship Service (NCS), the reasons for undergraduate study, the courses available, how to make a competitive application and tips for writing a personal statement. The event organised by the Institute for Higher Education and Professional Insight was a real success and we are hoping to organise a similar KAN HE day next year.
We have had some lovely feedback from the schools that attended:
"Students were extremely positive about the sessions which they found both informative and inspiring. As Leader of Sixth Form, it was also pleasing to know that the advice and guidance that we are providing to students are very much in line with what universities are looking for. I would very much recommend that you repeat this event next year."
"I wish I had of been to that when I was in Year 12"
Fredric Warner who was one of our guest speakers from Kings College London commented- I can safely say that was my most enjoyable school visit, I really enjoyed it and am already looking forward to your next event!
