Intelligence Squared Debate

Share article:

On Thursday 28 September we went to London to see a debate with Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft in Westminster.

Satya Nadella is one of the world’s most inspirational business leaders, as much a humanist as a technologist and executive.

He talked about not only his life as a leading figure in the technological field of 2017, but also as a father, and a husband. He discussed his personal journey from a childhood in India to becoming CEO of Microsoft, the importance of finding a balance between work and family, and how crucial it is to have your priorities straight. Of course, he also discussed artificial intelligence, mixed reality, and quantum computing, and answered some intriguing questions on this topic from the audience, one of which came from a Sevenoaks student.

Satya believes that humans and professions will develop and adapt alongside artificial intelligence rather than struggle against it in terms of employment. He emphasied the importance of empathy with colleagues and customers, and argued that, as technology upends the status quo, the very human quality of empathy will become increasingly valuable.

We found the talk inspiring and informative and we are very grateful for this amazing opportunity to listen to the thoughts of one of the leading figures in the technological field.
