We were delighted to welcome speakers from the University of East Anglia, University of Bristol, National Citizenship Service, Cambridge Occupational Analysts and Pathway CTM, to our Higher Education Day event on Tuesday 27 November. They addressed 140 Year 11 pupils from local schools on a range of higher education topics.
Dr Mariama Ifode from Cambridge Occupational Analysts spoke to students about choosing Sixth Form subjects, and gave them practical advice and tips, including where and how to research Higher Education choices and careers.
This was followed by social entrepreneur and founder of Pathway CTM, Chris McNamara, who led an inspirational talk on the benefits of a winning attitude, as well as hints and tips to get ahead by differentiating yourself from the crowd. He went on to discuss the different pathways the students could take, including degree apprenticeship programmes.
Lauren Hughes, Higher Education Adviser at UEA, went on to tackle common concerns that affect a student’s decision on applying to university, and the application process. Bristol gave them an overview of what it is like to study at university and discussed student finance.
We were also thrilled to have the NCS present their summer programme to the pupils, which is designed to provide young people with new experiences to enhance their CV, boost their confidence and help them find their passion.
The feedback was very positive and the students found the talks informative and inspiring. We look forward to similar events in the future. Thank you to all who spoke and everyone that attended.
