During the summer half term, we, as a group of ten Sevenoaks students joined by three Bennet Memorial peers, travelled to the Brecon Beacons in Wales for our Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award practice expedition. Put simply, it was a truly amazing experience that we never thought we’d have the opportunity to partake in.
Not only were we travelling and camping together, we learned how to canoe and did the expedition on canoes and kayaks. Through wind, rain and sunshine we covered 55km of the River Wye, working together in tougher stretches or rafting up and relaxing on the open river. It truly was a great feeling when we realised that after learning how to canoe one day, the next we were on the river, all of our equipment and food inside the canoes, flowing down the river. The expedition itself cannot be described better than simply an amazing experience, and no words do justice to the things we learnt and enjoyed.
