During half term, the German department took Year 10 students on a three-day trip to Berlin.
The new study trip covered the theme of Jewish Berlin, with the first day focusing on ‘the divided Berlin’ and the second focusing on ‘today’s Berlin’. The third day supported the themes with a variety of different activities throughout the day.
Despite questionable navigation skills by some students (who were asked to guide the group on public transport from place to place), and even more questionable cycling skills by others, we succeeded in seeing the Jewish Museum and the Holocaust Memorial. We also heard about the Kindertransport and Berlin’s Stolpersteine, visited the Hackesche Märkte, cycled along the remnants of the Berlin Wall, drove Trabants in the DDR Museum, viewed Berlin from the top of the Lange Lulatsch, climbed the dome of the Reichstag, and journeyed through the new government district on a river cruise.
Overall, it was a fantastic trip with an amazing group of students, and hopefully the first of many more German department visits to Berlin!
