On 29 April, we were delighted to host the Regional Final of the English Speaking Union’s Shakespeare Monologue Competition. Six Sevenoaks students took part in the competition, alongside 16 pupils from three other schools in Kent and Sussex: Bede’s, Ashford School and St Simon Stock.

Congratulations to Marcel Steinbauer-Lewis (Year 9), who goes through to the national finals in London in June, thanks to his outstanding performance of ‘The play’s the thing’ (Hamlet). A special mention also goes to Tabitha Bolter who was awarded the acting commendation prize for her fantastic performance of Imogen’s forest speech from Cymbeline.

Sevenoaks Drama teacher Karl Niklas said: ‘I am extremely proud of our students who have tackled the challenge of understanding the heart and soul of these characters. They realised them beautifully on the stage, drawing both tears and laughter from the audience. They are proof that Shakespeare still has relevance in our educational system.’
