On second day back after the Easter holiday, we held our incredibly exciting Early Summer Concert. Eliza Ruffle (Y11) opened the concert with a breathtaking performance of Liszt’s 2nd concert piece, La Leggierezza. This was beautifully completed by the Sennocke Consort singing the Fauré Requiem. Millie Fitzgerald, Teniola Olusina-Bankole, Ferdinand Beier, Nicholas Leung and James King were all vocal soloists and Lachlan Edwards the violin soloist in what was a very moving performance.

Mr Thomas Harvey expertly led the Choral Society singing Orff’s Carmina Burana. Our huge thanks and congratulations go to Malek Marar (U6) and Mr Wey for playing the two piano parts in Carmina, to Ms Day and Arthur for singing the soprano and baritone solos, Mr Harvey for his conducting and rehearsals, and to our fabulous team of student and professional percussionists.

Having faced cancellations and masked rehearsals since preparations began at the start of the year, as well as an increasing number of staff absences at the end of the Lent term, the day of rehearsals and the concert itself went remarkably smoothly and marked a welcome return to ambitious repertoire and massed choral performances in The Space. It was particularly special to celebrate the contributions of our Upper Sixth students to Music at Sevenoaks, especially those singing with Sennocke Consort for the final time in their school careers.

Well done and thank you to all those involved. After such a difficult year for the choir, they all came together quite spectacularly to give the term a rousing start!
