Our Director of Outreach was delighted to act as a judge at the recent Shoreham Village Primary School’s Business Brains Competition 2017. All pupils from reception to Year 6 were involved in the competition in teams, with the winning team being the Recycling Rangers who won the coveted prize with their range of recycled gifts.

Recycling Rangers team captain, Taylor Moore, aged 10, commented “We are delighted to have won the award because we all worked hard together. We made unique gifts which sold so well and we developed a sustainable business because we used materials that were recycled. We made a profit of £103.”

Headteacher Mrs Gillian Lovatt-Young commented, “We feel it is important to give the children the opportunity to gain a first-hand experience of planning and running their own businesses which develops real-life skills.

The event culminated in a Dragons Den style presentation where each team presented to a panel that included Karen Barnard, Manager, of Sevenoaks Store ‘Barkers for Dogs’, who also explained how their specialist store is preparing for Easter, and Mr Graeme Lawrie, Director of Innovation and Outreach from Sevenoaks School who commented, ‘It is unusual for children this young to work together on an entrepreneurship challenge, but it was a breath of fresh air to see how engaged and passionate they were about the activity.’
