On Thursday 16 May, the Sevenoaks School Science and Technology Centre and Global Study Centre won the Design through Innovation category at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors awards ceremony.
The RICS Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure. They celebrate the achievements and successes of RICS professionals and their impact on local communities.
The RICS Judges were impressed with the project team’s delivery, including the impressive full-height central atrium, a multi-purpose hall, technology workshops.
The Science and Technology Centre, designed by Tim Ronalds Architects, places Science and Technology at the heart of the school and offers 30 glass-fronted laboratories and workshops arranged around a top-lit atrium, with all activities visible within. A place for experimentation and discovery, it adjoins the Global Study Centre, which brings Higher Education, the Sixth Form study and social areas and the Sixth Form pastoral staff into the same space for the first time.
The building completes a new quadrangle for the school, made up of several of the elements central to the liberal education we offer – Physical Education and the Library at opposite ends, Technology and Science alongside and opposite the Performing and Visual Arts, with the Global Study Centre aligned with the Library, inspiring the outward-facing ambition of our educational programme.
The Science and Technology Centre and Global Study Centre advances to the Grand Final in October to compete against other regional winners in the Design through Innovation category.
