The Debating Society enjoyed a lively day at the London School of Economics competing against other schools on motions such as This House Regrets the overwhelming narrative of good overcoming evil in children’s entertainment and This House Believes welfare benefits and pensions policies should be decided by a group of experts selected by their peers.
As usual in competitions, the debaters had 15 minutes to prepare their arguments with no access to the internet. After a strong start, we sadly failed to gain a podium place, but half our team only started debating this term when they joined the Sixth Form, so we were pleased to beat teams from established debate schools including Eton, Westminster, Dulwich and St Paul’s.
