Co-curricular visual arts

All pupils are welcomed into the Art department to develop creative projects in their own time. Many younger pupils join the array of after school clubs, which range from animation to ceramics. All can come at breaks, lunch times and after school. Sixth Form students pursue specialist projects in areas such as photography and film-making.

The studios are set up to offer a welcoming creative environment, encouraging individuals to establish their own creativity. Alongside specialist teachers, an Artist in Residence works in the studios, developing his professional practice. This enables pupils to discuss progress whilst drawing on the expertise and inspiration of a recent art college graduate.

There is a club every day after school. Currently we offer:

  • Lower School Art Club
  • Middle School Drawing Club
  • Ceramics Club
  • Dark Room Club
  • Animation Club
  • Digital Photography Club
  • A club aimed at developing portfolios for applications to art and design-based degree courses such as architecture.

Pupils are also involved with art projects across the campus; a visiting artist recently helped realise pupils’ designs for a mosaic for the grounds and the VSU art group have produced a mural for the Middle School Common Room. Another group have established an annual magazine to showcase pupils’ art. Further examples of pupils’ art can be viewed here.
