Sevenoaks offers a very wide range of mainstream curricular languages. We are keen to promote the study of pupils' mother tongues and support those with interests in other languages and cultures. We currently offer small Sixth Form classes in Italian and Hindi within the timetable.
We have in the past been able to cater for learners of, for example, Dutch and Danish, and are always willing to make enquiries into other language instruction if there are sufficient numbers interested.
Italian is offered at ab initio level. We have also started to offer the subject at B Standard Level, on a privately funded basis. No prior knowledge of the language is required before starting the ab initio course. We have recently begun a successful exchange programme with a school in Crema.
Hindi is studied at B Standard Level, usually on a privately funded basis. It is normally taken by a handful of Indian students, but is open to anyone with reasonable prior experience of the language. We have also offered Hindi at IGCSE level.
Depending on availability, both subjects can be studied outside of the curriculum on a weekly basis during lunchtimes or after school.
For prospective IB students wishing to further language and literature studies of their mother tongue, but for whom we cannot offer tuition, there is the challenging option of self-taught study.
