University offers 2018

This year, 225 students applied to university, and to date, we have received 532 offers.

UK Universities

Students applying to UK universities have been successful in their applications to some of the most competitive institutions including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, LSE, and Durham. We are delighted that a total of 42 offers have been made to our students by the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, (23 offers from Oxford; 19 from Cambridge).

The most popular university destinations for our students this year are UCL (106 applicants), Durham (99 applicants), Exeter (88 applicants), and Bristol (75 applicants), for courses across a range of disciplines. To date, our students have received 22 offers from Imperial, 12 from LSE, 38 from Durham, and 55 from UCL.

Nationally, Medicine continues to be one of the competitive courses available. Twenty-six Sevenoaks students have applied for Medicine. So far five students have offers to read Medicine at KCL, Bristol, Plymouth and two have Oxford offers for Medicine. All three applicants for Veterinary Science and Veterinary Medicine have offers: one at Bristol, and two at Surrey.

International Universities

A good number of our students apply to study abroad. Forty Sevenoaks students have applied to US universities (nearly 20 per cent of our students), and nine have applied to prestigious universities in Canada; a further five students have applied to Hong Kong, and four to universities across Europe.

Early US Offers

Five early offers have been made by distinguished American institutions, including Yale, NYU, Northwestern, and Columbia. One student has been awarded the highly competitive Robertson Scholarship at Duke University. This is a great achievement: we believe that only three of the 18 finalists from the UK were selected. Early US offer recipients include some of the most able and motivated students worldwide.

The current UCAS cycle for offers is far from complete – final outcomes are not likely to be known until the end of March. At this stage we are delighted to congratulate all our students who have so far achieved an exceptional level of success with their university offers.

We are constantly aware of just how good the IB is as preparation for university entry; it enables all our students to progress onto some of the world’s best universities, on some of the most competitive and challenging degree programmes.

University Results 2016

There will be 211 university entrants this year from Sevenoaks School to leading universities across the world.

Eighty-seven per cent took up a place at one of the Russell Group universities. Of these, 29 Sennockians are taking up places at Oxford or Cambridge, while 53 are taking up places at one of the London colleges including LSE, UCL, KCL and Imperial. Other popular university destinations were Durham, Exeter, Warwick, Edinburgh and York. This year 26 students took up places at top US or Canadian universities, while another 11 made successful applications to European or other international universities.

The Sciences remain a popular subject choice (40 students), followed by Combined Honours and Liberal Arts (30), and Economics and Business (27). History, Politics and International Relations (24), Geography, Law, Psychology and Languages all continue to attract large numbers of applicants. Fourteen students will take up a place to study Medicine. Thirty-six students opted to take a gap year, with three of those holding deferred offers.

With the competition for places becoming ever fiercer, this is a tremendous record of achievement, and we wish all our new undergraduates every success in their higher education and future careers.

University Results 2015

With the university offers season just at its close, we are delighted to report that we have an excellent 75% offer rate with 786 offers from UK universities.  This means that our students were successful in three quarters of all their applications across the cohort, with roughly a third receiving offers from all five universities they applied to and two thirds receiving four offers or more.

We had particularly pleasing offer rates from Exeter, where 90 Sevenoaks students were made offers, UCL made 84, Durham 71 and Bristol 60.  This year 36 students received offers from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge.

Our prospective medics had a record year of offers, as we saw a 10% increase in the offer rate and well over 80% of our Medicine applicants now hold an offer.  Of particular note, six Sevenoaks students received offers from UCL where over 2500 applications were received this year and only 298 offers were made.  We were delighted by the number of offers received in every discipline.

Those who applied to universities overseas were equally successful. We have 84 offers from top US universities including offers from Harvard (1), Brown (1), Yale (2), Princeton (1), Stanford (2), NYU (8), U Chicago (3), UPenn (4), Tufts, Northwestern, Northeastern, Johns Hopkins, Dartmouth, Michigan and 16 offers from the University of California’s colleges – UCLA, Berkeley, Davis, San Diego and Santa Barbara.

Ten students have also received offers from McGill and all seven students who applied to The University of Hong Kong, HKUST and CUHK have received offers.
