Ian Doherty MA

Ian Doherty joined the Governing Body in 2010 and was appointed Chair in November 2018.

Ian was educated at St Columb's College, Derry and read History at Peterhouse, Cambridge. The Managing Director of James Doherty Meats Ltd, a family business, he also holds non-executive positions as the Chairman of Pi Communications and a Director of the Progressive Building Society. He has previously filled a number of other non-executive roles and was a Civil Service Commissioner for Northern Ireland between 1998 and 2003. Currently a Director of the Leuven Institute for Ireland in Europe, he has been a Governor of two schools, a member of the Senate of Queen's University, Belfast and Chairman of the charitable social enterprise School Employer Connections. Ian speaks French, Irish, Italian and German and his interests include literature, music, travel, walking and skiing.
