On Sunday 4 December, a crisp and chilly but stunningly bright and clear winter’s morning, 12 Lower Sixth Sevenoaks Russianists competed in a 10km race at Victoria Park in London. To make this task even more challenging, all competitors were required to complete the distance dressed in full Santa outfits. Our pupils showed great spirit, humour and determination in the build up to the big day, and acquitted themselves excellently around the course, alongside 3000 other people dressed as Father Christmas. Our fastest runners finished in just under 50 minutes, and everyone was back within an hour and a quarter, which was a tremendous effort.
Five more of our students of Russian (unable to participate on Sunday) will also be completing the distance in a specially organised run in Sevenoaks in Knole Park in the new year. In total, we are hoping to raise over £3000. This is the fifth year running that the Sixth Form Russianists have taken part in the Santa Run. The money raised goes to Ecologia, a charity which supports orphans in Russia, including some communities that our pupils plan to visit in April.
