Sevenoaks School entered 136 students in this year’s Senior Mathematical Challenge. The entrants, from Years 10, 11, Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth, achieved 23 gold, 39 silver and 32 bronze certificates after sitting the challenge in November. Twelve students qualified for the next round, the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1, a very difficult three-hour paper. Five qualified for a (slightly easier) Senior Kangaroo paper.
Catherine Xu achieved a gold medal in the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1 and has qualified for Round 2, which she will sit on Thursday 26 March. From this round the British Maths team is chosen.
