On Wednesday 5 October the stylish Trio Rosario performed at Sevenoaks School’s inspiring new venue, The Space. And indeed the whole space was filled with a programme of music demonstrating the versatility and invention of the piano trio as a musical medium. Their stylish, authentically 18th century performance of Mozart’s trio in B flat major was exquisite and the trio produced two wonderfully romantic performances in Grieg’s beautiful Andante con moto and Rachmaninov’s Trio Élégiaque in G minor.
But perhaps the most daring and innovative part of the programme was a second half dedicated to the music of Astor Piazzolla (pictured). This included the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires as well as the unusual work Oblivion and the final touch of brilliance was their turning the last item into an accompaniment for a dance, strictly interpreted by Anita Burrowes-Strevens and Gregory Warren Wilson, brilliantly accompanied at the piano by Andrew Quartermain.
