Treasure Chest

This is the profit of the Parents' Association.  It is made up of subscriptions from parents, the proceeds of our fund raising activities and the PA second hand clothes shop.  It is re-distributed to the school for the benefit of the children, on items which are not priority for the school's budget but are nice to have.

Film Director and Old Sennockian Paul Greengrass opened the recently installed Digital Imaging Studio in the Visual Arts and Media Department. Known for his work, amongst other films, with the Bourne Ultimatum and the Bourne Supremacy, United 93, and his forthcoming film GreenZone which is released in march, he addressed staff and students about the importance of digital multimedia to communication and the country's economic future, before declaring the studio formally open.

The studio was sponsored by the Parents' Association and will be used by all students studying art and media from the ages of eleven to eighteen.  It offers fourteen high end computers with the Adobe Creative Collection CS4 which includes PhotoShop and Premiere for animation and film editing,  There are courses for Sixth Form students as well as a Director's Club which meets after school on Tuesdays.

Other recent PA projects include a major contribution to the building of a state of the art climbing room in the Sennocke Centre, which was offically opened in January 2008. It is a popular activity in the sports centre and is used by pupils of all ages throughout the school.

A handmade, bespoke harpsichord was made for the Music Department. Its use will enhance chamber music, which is one of the great strengths of the Music Department and will accurately represent the period. A large number of students will benefit from hearing, accompanying or playing an instrument which was used 250 years before the piano.

Two state of the art machines have been bought for the Design Technology Department: a Laser Cutting and Edging machine and a CNC Router. They will help make the Sevenoaks DT department a leader in the field, and enable the students to carry out more advanced projects.

In the last few years the PA has made contributions to the sport, music and DT departments to try and make sure that as many pupils as possible benefit from these exciting additions to existing facilities.
