The Head’s Cookery Society met on Tuesday 12 June, with nine students gathering in Mrs Ricks’ house to enjoy what was planned as a summer themed meal. After the success of the last event, in which we prepared Moroccan style chicken and apple crumble, we continued with an international main course theme complemented by a British classic as dessert.
This time we prepared Singaporean Laksa, a homage to the many Singaporeans at school, and an idea stemming from Mrs Ricks’ visit to the country. As well as kindly hosting us, Mrs Ricks shared her culinary experiences from Singapore, and testified to the authenticity of our Laksa. We also prepared Eton mess (it was, after all, meant to be a warm June evening). The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all those in attendance. We all learned a great deal from our resident expert Mrs Ricks, to whom we are grateful for inviting us once again, and from Professor Ricks, who provided us with excellent company as well as providing some interesting insights into universities both here and abroad.
