OS Hockey, Football and Rugby - Sunday 11 September

A cool, crisp September morning greeted this year’s OS sports day. We started with a hockey match between leavers’ from 2009 and 2010. Caroline Crawford organised and captained a team of OS ‘Gallacticos’ who took on a school first/second team. It was a close run with the OS edging out the school 2-1.

The hockey was followed by football where a team of OS took on a school staff XI. Damien Donaghue (1995) put together and led a team of OS which straddled 3 decades! It was another close contest which the OS won 2-0 with James Fraser (1995) scoring and showing he has lost none of his guile and clinical finishing. The current staff fancy themselves at football, so it was a creditable win for the OS.

The day climaxed with a four-way rugby 10s tournament. The teams from the following years were organised by: Peter Croft Baker 2004 leavers; Andrew Smith/Matthew Newman 2006 leavers; Gavin Mckenzie/William Ellis 2008/2009 leavers and Rory Dunnett/Charlie Farrant 2010/11 leavers. The competition was fierce and very competitive with some excellent rugby played by everyone. The last game between the Dunnett/Farrant 10 and the Smith/Newman (Old Guard) 10 was a fitting finale and the Old Guard sneaked it with a ‘Golden Try’ winning score.

We finished with an excellent tea organised by Dan from catering where we watched an interesting competition between the Old Guard players to see who took the trophy home.

OS Rugby Tournament Saturday 11 & Sunday 12 June

The Old Guard RFC played in the Milano Rugby Festival on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June.  The Guard beat the Aggiotaggio Boys 19-17 with a last-minute converted try in a fiery match-up, but lost 5-19 to the eventual Cup finalists, Clan of Heaven, placing them in the 2nd tier Plate competition. After taking three solid victories to top their Plate group, and comfortably easing past the Welsh Gwent Police in the plate semi-finals, they faced Italian side Sabbile Mobili in the final, losing in sudden death extra time. A disappointing final result but a superb weekend overall.

OS Inaugural Golf Social Day - Friday 20 May

The inaugural Old Sennockian Golf Social Day was held on Friday 20 May 2011 and was a great day of competitive golf.

OS golfers travelled from as far a field as Belgium to play at the very popular Knole Park Golf Club in Sevenoaks.

Old Sennockians enjoyed a ploughman's lunch before tee off started at 2pm.  The Secretary of the OS Golf Society, Jeremy Smith, joined the OS players who enjoyed fine weather, great company and good play.

OS 5-a-side football - Saturday 14 May

The annual Old Sennockian 5-a-side football tournament took place on Saturday 14 May and was another great day of competitive sport.

Eleven teams entered the competition with OS players ranging from the class of 1990 through to the class of 2005.  The group stages saw four qualifying teams after Andrew McKay's class of 2001 narrowly missed out on getting to the semis on penalty shoot outs. James Fraser's class of 1995 were beaten by Lucian Weston's class of 2004, whilst the teaching staff team captained by Gareth Willis had a surprise victory beating David Gellatly's class of 1999.

There was plenty of excitement throughout the tournament, including two penalty shoot outs. The day came to a tense final with Gareth Willis' team against the defending champions. After an exciting game with plenty of cheering from all those who had taken part in the tournament, Lucian Weston's team saw victory for a third consecutive year. The successful team are: Lucian Weston, Will Lloyd, Ashley Bowman, James Marshall, Andrew Jack and Alfy Weston.
