Sixth Form

In the Lower Sixth, students receive two individual careers/Higher Education interviews to help them with their choices. They are also encouraged to attend the Careers Fair in February as well as numerous talks and presentations by careers staff, university admissions tutors and professionals (see Careers Programme).

For those students who are undecided about their choices we offer Centigrade, a questionnaire administered by COA.

Download information and application form for Centigrade.

Higher Education

There are two events for students and parents about Higher Education in the summer term; the Oxbridge Evening with an admissions tutor each from Oxford and Cambridge which is open to Sevenoaks parents and those of neighbouring schools and the Higher Education Evening.

UCAS

Students applying to UK universities do so electronically via UCAS apply. The general UCAS website offers a plethora of useful information for parents and students.

The School operates a timetable to remind students of internal and external deadlines: UCAS timetable.

The Careers Department has produced a booklet to help students and parents through the application process: How to apply for Higher Education.

Click here for information about university fees and loans.

For a number of degree subjects students have to sit a pre-university test, notably in Medicine and Law. See BMAT, LNAT, UKCat for further information.  Oxford University requires tests in other subjects, too.

League tables can be useful in making a preliminary choice of potential universities to apply to:
The Complete University Guide
Guardian/Encarta University Rankings 2009/10
Times Online Good University Guide

For detailed information and an assessment about the value of league tables see League Tables.

Click here for a useful website that provides 'virtual tours' of over 380 HE institutions.

For students who are considering applying to Oxbridge there is a profile of what these universities are looking for in an applicant.

Download a set of Frequently Asked Questions about UCAS applications and our responses.

Overseas Applications

Every year a significant number of Sevenoaks students apply to universities in the United States and Canada. We have produced a booklet with essential information for applicants and run a SAT preparation course.

Many US universities use the Common Application Form.
