The results from the National Smallbore Rifle Association Proficiency Badge Competitions have been received for the calendar year 2011.
Last year Sevenoaks won the National Roll of Marksman Shield for the second time, setting a new national record score of 175 from 31 competitors. We also won the Junior shield for the first time, also setting a new national record score with 98 points from 28 competitors.
Each competitor shoots four targets (total score ex.400) and their score earns them a classification (Master, Expert, A, B, C, D, Jnr A, Jnr B, Jnr C) that earns the club accumulating points.
The 2011 results reveal that we have retained both shields, further raising the National record scores too. Forty shooters (from Year 8 to the Upper Sixth) of the Sevenoaks School club achieved a score of 181 (in 2002-3 the School had 10 pupils shooting competitively) to complete our hat-trick with the NRM Shield. We won the Junior Shield with a score of 102 with 38 shooters. As the results show, we had more competitors involved but the standard of scores was somewhat lower than 2010.
