British Schools Short Range Winter Open

Hosted by Wellington College on their range we faced tough opposition from Greshams and Wellington. The shoot consisted of three 10-bull targets; the third was a time limit where you have 90 seconds to fire ten rounds. Our A team put in a respectable performance considering this was an away match finishing 6th and it was tight between them and 4th place. Fran Vernon was our champion for the day who won her age class, came 5th in the individual and 3rd in the time limit shoot.

Inter Home Counties Carey Salver Match

On Tuesday 22 November 2011 Sevenoaks School's six shooters in the seven-strong Kent Junior team shot their three targets each for this match. Only Serena Yuen and Victoria Redman had experienced this match before, and Ed Kim, Serena and Mike Jones had the added pressure that these targets were concurrent with their Home Counties Squad place in the match against New Zealand.

In the silence of each detail you could feel each shooter's focus and determination interspersed only by call of shots and sighting instructions. After two hours we had finished. The targets were then posted to the external marker.

In January it was annouced that the Kent team had won. Congratulations to the Sevenoaks shooters who carried our strength in the team through for a fourth year, and especially to Sam Gearing, from Dover and Ramsgate, whose magnificent top score made a huge difference. Well done to everyone who put in tremendously consistent performances; it was such a consistent performance that the squad managed exactly the same score as last year. Well done team!

WKRL Erith Cup Knock Out Competition 2010
This was perhaps the most tense final we have experienced. The chance to win the Erith Cup three years in succession was heavy on our minds and the A-team were up against tough opponents.

Serena suffered from a poor call on a sight change. Nick had an outstanding shoot but a small lapse in concentration meant he incurred a penalty point for 2 shots in 1 aiming mark. Tabby was doing great until her last shot went wildly high and Fran was disappointed dropping her last shot. By the end I was certain we would not retain the trophy. While we lost our composure the miracle that Blackpool would fare even worse was all we could hope for. That prayer was answered and we beat them by 1 point. In seven years of entering we have won this four times, including two 3rd places with the wins, second twice and third once. No one team has remained the same over the years.

BSSRA leagues 2011

Under 15 B team
Our B team, Tom Smith, Henry Bowers, Roshan Ruprai and Theo Moverley Smith have moved into a slender lead after the 3rd round of shooting. In rounds 4 and 5, (with James Vernon substituting Theo Moverley Smith), the team scores are 365 and 375 respectively. This is an incredibly strong finish and I hope it will see Sevenoaks through to a well-deserved division win. Congratulations to Tom Smith whose Under 15 debut sees him with the top average in this team and James Vernon whose baptism of fire may well have secured the victory (his scores in blue).

British Schools Long Range Championship, Lord Roberts Centre, Bisley, 2009: We shot against Wellington and Gresham’s. Top scorer: F Danczak with 194/200 (only 2 points off the day’s highest score). Last year’s leavers, Richard Pelmore, Rex Wickenden and Steff Jury were approached by the Home Counties Coordinating Committee to shoot for the juniors against New Zealand, although none were able to accept.
