SH Theatre Trip - War Horse

On a chilly Tuesday evening in November a group of 20-odd School House boys traveled up to London to see ‘War Horse’ at the National Theatre, a Nick Stafford adaptation of Micheal Morpugo’s spectacular novel. The play was based on a tale of bravery, loyalty and friendship, set during the First World War. At the start of the war Joey, Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and taken to France. He's soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man's land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a dangerous mission to the trenches to find him and bring him home. Actors, working with astonishing, life-sized puppets as well as impressive special effects, told the story with great skill creating an emotional performance. The choice of play could not have been more relevant, the day before remembrance and just to add to this emotionally charged performance we were greeted by members of the cast on exit selling poppies.

We would like to thank Mr. Presland for organising this awe-inspiring trip and to Mrs Hebbert and Mr Willis for accompanying us.
