On Friday 10 June, the garden at School House was transformed into Sevenoaks’ premier open-air concert venue. Compères Vadim Ordovsky-Tanaesky and Rex Boulter guided the audience through the varied evening’s programme, their enthusiastic introductions matched only by the questionable quality of their jokes. The concert, performed to an audience of lower and middle school boarders, showcased some of the school’s finest performers in an evening that reflected the diversity of music at Sevenoaks School and the talent of the boarding community. Instrumental skill was evident in abundance, from Will Wood’s technically adept cello playing to Bernard Lee’s stylish piano performance. Similarly, the audience was treated to stunning and professionally delivered vocal solos by Chantal Wong, Julia Pinchuk, Jasmine Chu, Jenny Hack and special guests Louis Nevison and Ben Richards. The starring performers of the evening were the Johnsons Band, playing a set of three pieces with vocalists Tanay Modi and Tarish Travedi. Chris Ying, Jeremy Lam and CY Chan provided a masterclass performance. The evening was rounded off, in inimitable style, by Vadim and Julia’s take on Bruno Mars’ Lazy Song, with accompaniment from Marcus Mok. Despite a few drops of rain, nothing could dampen the high spirits of the audience at what is fast becoming an annual fixture in the Sevenoaks cultural calendar.
Many thanks to Mr Gladstone for organising the event (and providing chocolate).
