Sevenoaks take 2nd place at Brunel Badger Sailing Competition

Last weekend Sevenoaks sent a team to the ‘Brunel Badger’ – Brunel University’s event. Held at Datchet Reservoir, the competition attracted 21 teams, mainly from universities but also a few from the strongest schools such as Sevenoaks, Magdalen College School, Claires Court and Eton.

Due to Upper Sixth mocks the Sevenoaks team was comprised of Lower Sixth and Year 11 sailors. They performed superbly on Saturday, losing only one race, to end the day ranked 2nd overall. During the course of the day they defeated a number of university teams, including Loughborough, Brunel, Portsmouth and Oxford Brookes.

Unfortunately Sunday saw no wind so no more racing could take place. However, finishing second overall at a university event is an excellent achievement, and even more so given that for a few members of the team it was their first taste of a competition of this level.

Magdalen College School, our main rivals at school level, also sailed really well to win the event overall. Unfortunately the teams did not get to race each other, but we are due to have a fixture with them on the 17 March, which will provide interesting racing!
