On Saturday 27 November Sevenoaks held the Jack Cade cup at Bough Beech. The event, now in its third year, is for schools and universities. This year, despite some late drop-outs due to weather warnings, we had five visiting teams: Magdalen College School 1 & 2, King’s Canterbury, Ardingly and Brunel University. They were joined on the water by five Sevenoaks teams with sailors from Year 9 up to the Upper Sixth representing the school.
The event was run as a single round robin with all teams racing each other. Going into the last race of the day Sevenoaks A and MCS 1 both had perfect 8/8 records so this race would decide the winner. MCS got the better of the start but Henry Forward and Victoria Moynes managed to get into first place which was to prove important.
Sevenoaks were losing going into the last leg of the race but good fast sailing pulled them through to a winning combination, to give them the race and first place overall.
Sevenoaks B also sailed a solid event with just two losses to finish third overall. The younger sailors sailing in the C, D and E teams also gained some valuable racing experience and all put in some good performances which bodes well for the future.
