Sevenoaks is committed to developing principled, caring young people who possess a sense of social responsibility. Its Service Programme, begun in 1961, provides students from a range of year groups with opportunities to become involved in a wide variety of projects within school, as well as the local and global community.

From teaching and playing with younger pupils on our school campus or local primary schools to visiting the elderly, working in day centers for adults with physical and learning disabilities, or travelling to India or Romania to help with orphanages and schools for disadvantaged children, there is a considerable range of options from which they can choose.

We encourage students to contribute as much as they can, and in return they learn a great deal about the value of working with people with particular needs, developing maturity, confidence and a sense of community.

Social Enterprise Day

In February, Entrepreneurs in Action ran a social enterprise day with all Lower Sixth students. The aim was to consider such questions as ‘What is a social enterprise?’, ‘How might social enterprise play a significant role in your career?’ and ‘What is the growing importance of corporate social responsibility for all companies?’.

Students were set the challenge of coming up with their own idea for a social enterprise and then pitching it to a group of buyers. The day finished with an inspiring talk from Doug Richard, parent of a Sevenoaks pupil and star of the first two series of Dragons’ Den.
