The 38th Boys Knole Run and the 16th Girls Knole Run took place in Knole Park on Saturday. Over twenty Girls teams entered and the race was won by Ruth Bourne of Sevenoaks School in a new course record of 12.05 with Sevenoaks School winning the team competition. There were over 40 Boys teams competing this year: Henry Pearce of Tonbridge School won the race in a time of 32.24 and the team competition was won by Judd School. 2011 Knole Run

Girls’ Knole Run
Saturday 15 January was a cold and windy day, but with thankfully no rain to increase the mud that the runners faced as they lined up for the 15th Girls’ Knole Run. Over 120 competitors from 21 different schools turned up to the scenic Knole Park to compete in this year’s run. The course, though quite short at 2.2 miles, was fast and included some challenging terrain through the valley and up the hill, passing Knole House.

Sevenoaks School had six girls competing in a very strong team, who coped well in the muddy conditions. Victoria Walker of St Albans School won the Individuals Competition in an astounding 12 minutes 32 seconds, almost two minutes faster than the winning time of 2009. Lucy Reid from Sevenoaks School was just 8 seconds behind and first home for Sevenoaks, finishing in 2nd place. Close behind her was Ruth Bourne who although only in Year 10 came in 3rd, followed by great runs from the rest of the team: Nicola Wilkinson 7th, Tabitha Adams 10th, Claire Somerset 27th and Megan Annetts 30th.

This meant that the first four Sevenoaks School runners were all placed in the top 10 and the whole team was placed in the top 30. This brilliant team effort ensured Sevenoaks were in first place overall with Highgate coming in second and Uppingham third. Well done to everyone who ran and thank you to all those who helped marshal and run the event and the catering staff who put on a very welcoming tea afterwards.

Boys' Knole Run
Some 400 runners came to Sevenoaks from across Britain to take part in the 37th Senior Knole Run. There was even greater anticipation this year, following 2010’s unfortunate cancellation. With the kind permission of Lord Sackville and the National Trust, the race took place in Knole Park. Well-known for its demanding terrain, the Knole Run was made more difficult this year by slippery ground underfoot. Despite this, there was a great deal of support to encourage the runners, which made the run a real success.

In the Boys’ six-mile race, 35 teams competed, from schools around the country, but the event ended with a local victory as Judd won with an impressive lead over Manchester Grammar School and Abingdon. The McGregor Trophy, for the highest placed team from outside Kent, outside of the top three, went to Shrewsbury School. Sevenoaks came 15th led by Hanro Rossouw in 32nd and Alex Branford in 69th place.

The individual winner of the race was James Ogilvie of Uppingham, who finished in 33:37. He was followed by Chris Lloyd of Judd and Tom Jervis of Manchester Grammar School.
