School Snow Poem Competition Winners

Congratulations to the three winners of the School Snow Poem competition:

Lower School: Oscar Gordon-Reid
Middle School: Edward Haynes
Upper School: James White

There were many entries, all enjoying a high quality, but these stood out. They each receive a prize and the accolade of being published here.

Lower School Winner

Walking In a Winter Wonderland
Settling snow falls silently,
Incessantly dancing down and down.
An icy heaven forming rapidly,
Frosty vapour veiling, blurring our sight.
Winter’s on its way!

A skein of geese moving south,
Robins dart from skeletal trees.
Fish interned in their crystal prison,
Sparkling spears dangling from snow carpeted roofs.
Winter’s here to stay!

Snow
Snow, snow falling softly to the ground,
Settling in a white blanket that covers the earth.

Snow, snow freezing on the ground,
Crunching crisply under foot.

Snow, snow drifting with the wind,
Carrying the frosty sky around the world.

Snow, snow melting slowly in the sun,
Glistening brighter than any crystal.

Snow, snow where have you gone?

Edward Haynes (Y9)

Upper School Winner

My Window
Excited children bury themselves
In blank purity,
Loudly roaring and hurling

Snowballs. The absence of the
Sun seems to have had
Little effect.

Others ponder that ‘sparkling’ snow,
Citing either its beauty
Or its arrogance,

While lively poets write
Mundane poems for
A prize.

I, however, stand alone,
Staring out my window admiring
The silence. A silence that
Resonates within me.

James White (L6)
