Sailing

(Current UK Team Racing National Champion)

Sevenoaks is undoubtedly the school to beat when it comes to sailing, winning the school national championships for 16 of the past 19 years and the international schools championship for 11 of these years. In 2009 Sevenoaks finished 1st and 2nd in both the School national and international championships – a great achievement.

The school has excellent sailing facilities with its own fleet of 26 fireflies with sailing taking place three days a week at Bough Beech Sailing Club. Sailing continues all year round from Year 9 through to Upper Sixth. As well as training at Bough Beech sailors compete at a number of events around the country not just at school level but also on the University circuit and beyond.

Sevenoaks has produced a number of very successful sailors including Olympic medallists and many top team racers – every team that has been selected to represent GBR at the team racing worlds since it began in 1995 has included at least one Old Sennockian.

Training takes place in all three terms as follows:

Tuesday Afternoon: Y11, Lower and Upper Sixth
Thursday Afternoon: Y9 & Y10 – Older pupils can help out on as part of their Service activity
Saturday Afternoons: All year groups

Pupils can take up sailing at any stage and whilst some experience is helpful it isn’t always a requirement.
