Reunions in 2012

IC Celebrates 50th Anniversary - 29 September

On Saturday 29 September the school hosted a landmark dinner to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the International Centre boarding house. Some 150 guests, including former pupils and Housemasters, spanning five decades, were in attendance. Many guests took the opportunity to tour the school and return to the original IC in Oak Lane, now occupied by School House.

Guest of honour, and now in his 90th year, was former Headmaster, Mr Kim Taylor (1954-68), who, following drinks at the IC and a gourmet meal in the school dining hall, delivered a fascinating speech on the challenges he had to face to get the House up and running. Not only did he have to convince the Governors to purchase the old Ormiston Hotel in Oak Lane, but he had to raise money from various companies and trusts to support this new venture. Kim paid tribute to the hard work of Brian Scragg, the first Housemaster, who did so much to get the new House running.

Current Sixth Former and IC Chairman, Laurence Warner, thanked Mr Taylor and all guests for attending.

50th Year Reunion Lunch - 21 June

Undermaster Mike Bolton was delighted to welcome OS from the Classes of 1961 and 1962 to their reunion lunch. The Head, Katy Ricks, also mingled with guests in the stunning Recital Room including two OS who had made the most of the opportunity and travelled from Abu Dhabi and the Netherlands to meet up with one another after 50 years.

20th Year Reunion Dinner - 16 June

Such is the strength of association between the school and OS that people flew from Brazil, Sydney, South Africa and Europe to be at the reunion dinner for the Class of 1992. Former staff Phil Leese, Simon Gent, Peter and Linda Young joined current staff Mike Bolton, Roger Woodward, Arabella Stuart, Gillian Williams and Theresa Homewood.

The slideshow of yearbook photos brought back many memories and Alex Smith’s anecdotal welcome speech had everyone crying with laughter. Tom Sherman’s OS reply was inspiring in its message that it is the people you meet who provide the foundations for your future. Returning to your school can be daunting, but one OS summed up the positive aspect of reunions: “spending an evening with my 'extended family' offered all the fun and surprises one can hope for while rekindling lost friendships”.

10th Year Reunion Dinner - 19 May

Could it really have been 10 years since the Class of 2002 left school? 100 OS, guests and staff returned to the school, taking a campus tour and catching up on a decade of news with long lost friends. We congratulated those who had got married - some to fellow OS - and were delighted to hear so many have gone on to very successful careers. It was a pleasure to host such a fun evening and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for their 20th reunion.

OS London Summer Drinks Reunion - 11 May

Over 70 OS from the 60s to the Noughties joined us for a very enjoyable evening of summer drinks at Bar Blue in London. The weather reflected the ‘Summer’ theme and we were delighted to see so many old faces and more recent alumni join staff members for this informal, annual event.

Old Johnsonians 85th Reunion - 29 April

It was a delight to see so many Old Johnsonians at the reunion lunch on Sunday 29 April. There were many OS who hadn’t seen each other since their school days and had a lot of catching up to do. Thanks to Clive Hutchinson’s stalwart dedication to collecting Sevenoaks School memorabilia the Old Johnsonians had a treasure trove of photographs and documents spanning many years to look at.

Some OS braved the weather and took part in the campus tour to see how many positive developments have taken place over the years. We very much look forward to welcoming the Old Johnsonians back to the School in 2013 for, what has now become, an annual reunion.
