IC Celebrates 50th Anniversary - 29 September
On Saturday 29 September the school hosted a landmark dinner to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the International Centre boarding house. Some 150 guests, including former pupils and Housemasters, spanning five decades, were in attendance. Many guests took the opportunity to tour the school and return to the original IC in Oak Lane, now occupied by School House.
Guest of honour, and now in his 90th year, was former Headmaster, Mr Kim Taylor (1954-68), who, following drinks at the IC and a gourmet meal in the school dining hall, delivered a fascinating speech on the challenges he had to face to get the House up and running. Not only did he have to convince the Governors to purchase the old Ormiston Hotel in Oak Lane, but he had to raise money from various companies and trusts to support this new venture. Kim paid tribute to the hard work of Brian Scragg, the first Housemaster, who did so much to get the new House running.
Current Sixth Former and IC Chairman, Laurence Warner, thanked Mr Taylor and all guests for attending.
