Sevenoaks School Shooting Club Annual Dinner

The Shooting Club held its annual dinner and prize giving on Friday 16 September 2011. Over 60 pupils, parents and Old Sennockians attended, and another five guests came to hear the speeches and watch the prize giving. Guest of Honour, former captain Garth Oates, spoke about shooting after Sevenoaks, and then helped to present the prizes. Chairman of the West Kent Rifle League, Roger Chitty and his wife, Jenny were invited as thanks for all the support they have given to the school and youth shooting in general.

The Club Captaincy was handed over to Serena Yuen, Benno Brenninkmeijer became Vice Captain and Tanay Modi was appointed Adjutant. The club has grown so much, in conjunction with the CCF Shooting Squad, that Victoria Redman was given the roll of Fullbore Captain. Congratulations, thanks and farewells were made to leavers Fran Danczak, Tabitha Grainger and Nick Robinson before the prize giving began.

The Club Trophies were awarded, Serena received the title of Smallbore Champion in recognition for her high ranking Club, County (Junior and Ladies) and National team selections. Nick Robinson was presented the Darenth Cup as the Junior winner from the WKRL Open Championship. The Club celebrated retaining the National Smallbore Rifle Association National Roll of Marksmanship Shield but also winning the Junior Shield too. We were the first English School to win the shield last year and this year we broke the National record score for each shield, held since 1989, and broke Ardvreck’s 11-year run of winning the Junior Shield. Tabitha Grainger, Benno Brenninkmeijer, Fran Danczak and Nick Robinson were presented the National Rifle Association Ashburton trophy for winning the Ashburton Fours during the Schools Meeting this summer. The Inter Home Counties Carey Salver, which we retained for the third successive year with six of the seven Kent county shooters being from our school, was shown and explained to all.

The above is just a highlight of all the awards presented. A magnificent evening was enjoyed by all.
