We extend the school’s congratulations to Professor Jonathan Bate (OS) who has been elected the next Provost of Worcester College, Oxford.
He attended the school from 1971 until 1976 when he went on to read English at St Catherine’s College, Cambridge. After completing his doctorate he was a Fellow of Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He was appointed the King Alfred Professor of English Literature at the University of Liverpool in 1990. Since 2003 he has been Professor of Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature at the University of Warwick.
Professor Bate is well known as a critic, biographer and broadcaster and has held visiting posts at Harvard, Yale and UCL. In 2006 he was awarded a CBE for his services to higher education.
