Professional Development

The Centre is committed to providing development opportunities to all Sevenoaks staff to further the teaching, learning and other academic aims of the school.

Continuing Professional Development

The Centre for Innovation has a role in supporting the continuing professional development of teaching staff. If a member of the Sevenoaks academic staff has a non-IB training need, the Centre would be happy to support them in finding the appropriate course or event. The link below, from the Department of Education website, will take you to a menu of different providers, offering professional development in various aspects of teaching, assessment and classroom practice. In the first instance, please discuss your training needs with your Head of Department. If you can identify a course that would be of value to you, and approved by your Head of Department, we would be happy to book it for you, and to seek formal permission for your absence from school, if necessary.

If your training need is IB-related, please contact the IB Director, John Sprague who has a comprehensive list of IB workshops.

Teaching and Learning Awards

Teaching and Learning Awards are intended to support work by an individual, or a group, investigating and innovating in a specific area of curriculum development, teaching, learning, or assessment.

The Taylor Fellowship

Taylor Fellowships are intended to support a major individual research project into any aspect of the educational life of the school (including teaching and learning, curriculum, assessment, higher education and pastoral). A project could also involve the gathering of research material and data from external sources, such as other schools and institutions, academic publications, archives and libraries, or through experimental and practical work.
