The Tower of London is an ancient and incredible landmark, and the organ inside the tower’s Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula is among the finest in the country. A group of Mr Gladstone’s organ students were taken to play on the much-admired instrument on Sunday 13 February, after taking part in a Choral Matins Service led by the superb professional choir.
The new touch and sound of the ‘mechanical’ organ certainly baffled a number of us at the start, but after a few minutes of playing we had become accustomed to the wonderful feel, power and control lent to us, and all of us were able to bring those features to our advantage, and take our musical and artistic interpretation of the pieces we played to a completely different level. It truly was a fantastic, educating and unforgettable experience for all.
