On Monday 5 July 2010 at 11.30am in the Seminar Room, the Marley Hall, Brian Raynor (Mathematics department 1969-81) will give an illustrated public lecture on John Frith. Born in 1503 and martyred 4 July 1533, Frith was a student at Sevenoaks. As a boy Frith lived opposite Sevenoaks School in 15-16 High Street and in 1525 he was the top scholar at Cambridge.
For eight years, Frith worked with William Tyndale in producing the Authorised Version of the Bible. Frith's writings laid the foundation for the English Reformation and formed the substance of many of Thomas Cranmer's subsequent 39 Articles of Religion.
