The school organises over 750 lessons a week and in some recent years, this figure has risen to 800. Pupils may expect a minimum of 27 half-hour lessons every school year. Pupils organise each lesson with their music teacher such that they miss a part of different academic lessons each week and each subject no more than three times in the term. Pupils taking two lessons may try to fix one of these lessons outside academic time, such as before school, during the lunchbreak or after school. Some pupils prefer to make their own arrangements for instrumental tuition outside school. Sometimes this is because it is easier for the students to arrange their total study by so doing. The school also has 14 students who undertake an advanced course of study on Saturdays at the London conservatoires, a programme which is thoroughly supported by the school.
