History

The Centre was established in 2008 to maintain Sevenoaks’ unique identity in national and international education, as a pioneer in curriculum innovation, but also as a dynamic and forward-thinking professional environment for teachers.

Values

The key values of the Centre are:

  • commitment to embedding innovation at the heart of Sevenoaks School’s activities
  • openness to the benefits to be gained from external expertise
  • willingness to share and exchange our own expertise within the broader educational community, locally, nationally and internationally

Mission

The mission of the Centre is to foster and promote all forms of innovation in support of the school’s academic objectives, and furthermore to apply this to enriching the teaching and learning experience not only of Sevenoaks School, but also of the broader educational community. This will be achieved through:

  • Staff development
The Centre aims to enhance and intensify staff development opportunities, on a school-wide basis, through, for example, the Teaching and Learning Awards, Taylor Fellowships, and teacher exchanges. It is intended that staff development will be accessible to all.
  • Utilisation of external expertise
The Centre aims to maximise Sevenoaks School’s access to external expertise in all areas of teaching and learning. This will be achieved through the coordination of visiting speakers, Sackville lecturers and visiting fellows.
  • Academic investment
The Centre intends to support and promote innovation through financial and administrative support for projects originating in academic departments and, where potential for collaboration exists, with other institutions.
  • Intellectual outreach
The Centre is committed to furthering Sevenoaks School’s engagement with external partners and agencies such as schools, universities and other education-providers. The Centre will facilitate Sevenoaks’ contributions to curriculum development, for the IB and also for the lower and middle schools.
  • Teaching and Learning Enhancement
The Centre aims to promote all aspects of teaching and learning, both within the school, and also for the benefit of the wider community. Sevenoaks School’s IB revision courses have expanded rapidly, becoming a recognised provider of excellence. The Centre hopes to further develop its contribution in this area, through the possible expansion of its courses, and in the production of revision guides and resources.
