On Friday 15 April Sevenoaks hosted its first Higher Education Conference for the Lower Sixth. This event involved the return of 30 Old Sennockians presently in their first or second years at university.
Subject stalls were set up around the Aisher Hall and students then approached those OS who were doing a degree in a subject of interest to them, or alternatively they spoke to alumni about their institutions as a whole. The atmosphere was lively and constructive and former students provided the kind of detailed insights into what is taught and teaching methods on their degree courses that cannot be found in the glossy prospectuses. Their subjects included Anthropology, Business and Management, Classics, Economics, Engineering, English, Geography, History, History of Art, Maths, Medicine, Modern Languages, Politics, Philosophy and Psychology.
Variations in the dates of university Easter holidays prevented some institutions from being represented, but nonetheless the event saw alumni returning from Cambridge, Durham, Trinity College Dublin, Edinburgh, Exeter, Imperial College London, Nottingham, Oxford, SOAS and University College London.
