Head of Sailing represents GBR at US team racing championships

Sevenoaks School’s Head of Sailing, Andy Cornah, recently represented GBR at the US team racing championships, which took place in Seattle on 1-3 October. The event consisted of 15 top teams from all over the US, including the reigning world champions New York YC, and the one UK team (West Kirby Hawks) invited over as UK national champions.

After three days of intense racing the British finished the league stages ranked 2nd and went into a final against New York; the best of five went the distance with the scores tied at 2-all, the wind and light faded and a deciding race wasn’t possible, so the event was decided on points, which the US team took by the narrowest of margins.

The GBR team were very happy with the silver medal given they were competing in unfamiliar boats, in US waters. The team consisted of Andy Cornah, Ben Field and Dominic Johnson (both OS). Andy now goes onto his next big international event: captaining the British team in the British-America cup at the end of October.
