The award is reserved for a pupil from a state school wishing to study the International Baccalaureate Diploma for two years in the Sixth Form.

The award is available to any boy or girl living up to one hour’s travelling time from the school. At least 50%, and (on a means-tested basis) up to 100% remission of the day fee can be awarded.

Assessments are made in the Lent Term of the year of entry.

We are looking for a pupil who meets the normal academic requirements of the school but who also demonstrates outstanding sporting ability, potential, determination and enthusiasm. Candidates are likely to be of county standard or above. They will respond well to guidance, work well in a team and demonstrate good leadership skills, whether by example or captaincy.

The Findlay Sport Scholar should have exceptional talent in at least two sports and often more. Preference will normally be given to those involved in the school’s representative games – rugby, football, cricket, athletics, cross-country, basketball, tennis, swimming, hockey and netball. He or she will be expected to be a good ambassador and to demonstrate a willingness to contribute fully to the sporting and general life of the school. This includes a requirement to represent the school in at least two representative sports on a regular basis and after finishing public examinations, and an expectation to train and play with teams during periods of study leave.
